RIT Swing Dance Club at the Boston Tea Party 2009

This is not going to be an easy post to write considering I was did not attend our swing club meeting during week nine. I had too much to do in preparation for Northeast Girl Jam, a swing dance workshop I helped organize and run.

I had Colin teach the lessons and I heard they went very well. It is always hard to trust other people to run something you are used to running but I am getting better at it. Sometimes you need to know when to take a break and this was this right decision for me.

Something that I can write about is our planned club field trip in the spring. We have decided to attend the Boston Tea Party again. No, it is not a political protest, it is a weekend of swing dancing, workshops and competitions.

Last year over 20 club members attended and it was a great activity for everyone involved. It is really important for me to get club members out to a large-scale event so that they can see the magnitude and feel the magic of swing dancing.

Many club members have attended large events in Rochester and while that is an amazing opportunity, it is not the same as going out of town and having that experience.

Traveling to dance events got my really passionate about swing dancing and introduced me to so many great people and cities, including my current boyfriend and Rochester. Basically, I would not be where I am today if I hadn’t started traveling for swing dancing. This opportunity needs to be given to my club members.
